Tuesday, July 31, 2012 – 8:00 p.m. Kellie Pickler
|
with special guest Gwen Sebastian at 7 p.m. |
|
Kellie Pickler’s life has played out like a classic country song. From her hardscrabble, small town roots to center stage on American Idol to the top of the country charts, Kellie has proven that talent, beauty, hard work and determination are a potent combination. Like her heroes, Dolly, Tammy and Loretta, Pickler has captured the loyalty of the country audience with her gift for being genuine in her life and art.
If fans relate to Pickler, it’s because she’s always been an open book. She wears her heart on her sleeve and is never hesitant to discuss her past and its impact on her present. Her story is now familiar. She was raised by her grandparents in tiny Albemarle, NC. Her mother abandoned Kellie and her father was incarcerated much of her young life.
American Idol opened a door for Pickler to start making her dreams come true. She finished sixth on the fifth season of the popular competition and signed with 19 Recordings/BNA Records. Her debut set, Small Town Girl, launched with the sassy hit “Red High Heels.” Pickler continued to earn fans with “I Wonder” and “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind.” Her self-titled sophomore album further built on her reputation for delivering songs that were both substantive and entertaining, including the hits “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful,” “Best Days of Your Life” and “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.”

Wednesday, August 1, 2012 – 8:00 p.m. Sick Puppies
|
Sick Puppies don’t do things halfway, they see the glass as not just half-full, but brimming over with the kind of solid-rock anthems that’ll remind even the most cynical that absolutely anything is possible. When the Australian band decided to break through in the U.S., founding members, vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Shimon Moore and his high school classmate, bassist Emma Anzai, simply picked up and moved lock, stock and guitar to L.A., advertised for a drummer on Craig’s List, and were soon joined by Orange County native Mark Goodwin. The band’s acclaimed sophomore release, Tri-Polar, has sold more than 300,000 copies to date and includes four top 10 Rock tracks “Maybe”, “Odd One”, “You’re Going Down”, and their latest "Riptide" which has steered the way to appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Lopez Tonight. To this date Sick Puppies have shared stages with the likes of Nickelback, Seether, Shindeown, Breaking Benjamin, Evanescence, Deftones, Velvet Revolver, and many more. Together they’ve created a sound that reflects the past whirlwind years spent in the rock and roll fast lane, on the grueling tour grind, honing their chops until they are a finely tuned powerhouse ready to let loose with the anger, frustration and triumphs.

Friday, August 3 – 8:00 p.m. Theory of a Deadman
|
Theory of a Deadman Theory of a Deadman preserved the sound that fans worldwide have grown to love on Scars & Souvenirs [2008], Gasoline [2005], and Theory of a Deadman [2002], while expanding, enhancing, and evolving their approach. The band solidified their place at the top of modern hard rock by exceeding Platinum sales with their breakthrough Scars & Souvenirs and with #1 Mainstream Rock Radio hit "Bad Girlfriend."At the same time, other singles, "So Happy" and "By The Way," became crowd favorites on tours with everyone from Mötley Crüe and Godsmack to Daughtry and label mates Stone Sour. "Musically, not too much changed," says Connolly. "We had a bit of an epiphany when it came to songwriting though. We've been a band for over a decade now, and we realized what we're doing makes sense. There was a lot more confidence. I was able to dig in lyrically and be wide open. When I write, I either want to kiss someone on the lips or punch them in the face. Anything in between is boring." To capture those two ends of the spectrum, the band hunkered down once again in Los Angeles’ Bay 7 studio during January 2011 with Howard Benson [My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down]. Brenner adds, "We really found our sound on Scars & Souvenirs." "Lowlife" pulsates with stadium-sized energy, and it tells a clever tale in the process. Connolly reveals, "I thought it'd be cool to write a fun anthem about being a lowlife. It's okay to drive an old piece of crap car, get arrested and be a dirtball. Our fans aren't wearing suits and ties. They don't have diamond necklaces. They're regular people who like to party and sing rock 'n' roll music. The song speaks to them." Theory makes the horns sound very rock 'n' roll especially when they're wrapped in soaring distortion. For Connolly, these songs came from one of the most intense periods of his life. “There are a lot of lyrics that came from going through the roughest period of my life. I don't think I've ever been that beat up physically and emotionally. It took me awhile to get better, but as a result, this record is the best work that we've done," he said. Ultimately, the band’s new album, The Truth Is... stands out as the band's best work to date because it's about a shared experience with the audience for Connolly and Co at the end of the day. The frontman concludes, "I want to make a great song that can help get fans through hard times. I want them to take that music with them for the rest of their lives. I'm trying to write songs and change people, make them laugh, smile, or sing along. That's what I'm looking for."

Sammy Kershaw Since his debut on the music scene in the early 90s, Kershaw has remained one of the most consistent power hitters in country music both with a chain of major hit records and sell-out touring schedules. Sammy Kershaw’s plan for country music is re-claiming its roots and recapturing the spirit that made it great: The recording studio. “Man, for someone like me who had George Jones music imprinted in my DNA before birth, the last few years have been rough as a fan of country music,” noted Kershaw candidly in a recent national interview. “Country music is not a formula it’s music with its own soul and I’m all about saving that soul!” Often referred to as the heir apparent to the legendary voice himself George Jones, Sammy Kershaw helped make the 90’s a shining decade for country music. It’s a comparison not lost on Sammy, who grew up in the Cajun country of Louisiana on a diet of crawfish and country music. The oldest of four children, the tragic loss of his father, matured him even faster than the clubs and honky-tonks he was performing in at 12 years old. In the course of breaking into the ranks of stardom in country music, Sammy Kershaw has contributed to more than just the charts. His platinum albums were propelled into the record books by hits such as “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful,” “I Can’t Reach Her Anymore,” “National Working Woman’s Holiday,” “Love Of My Life,” “Cadillac Style,” “Don’t Go Near The Water,” “Haunted Heart,” and many other milestones.
